What Are You Eating? – Beloved Women

by Danielle Hawkins

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9 NKJV

TODAY’S ENCOURAGEMENT

Have you been fretful, anxious or worried lately? Have you been in a funk that you just can’t shake? Consider what you’re eating. Studies prove that if we eat too much junk food and not enough nutrients that our moods can suffer. What we feed our spirits affects us even more. The phrase, “you are what you eat” doesn't only apply to your physical body.

If you feed your spirit worldly, fleshly, carnal junk your spirit will suffer. Sometimes we even nurture our pain with the world’s offerings. For example, we may listen to sad songs when our hearts are broken. In today’s scripture, Paul encourages us, through his letter to the Philippians, to nourish our spirits instead.

You’ll find that if you feed on God’s good Word and live by it, God and His peace will be with you.

PRAY

My Heavenly Father, please forgive me for giving more of my attention to the things of this world than to You and Your Word. Please help me to be consistent about consuming Your good spiritual food, in good times and bad. In Jesus Christ’s Name, I pray. Amen.

REFLECT

Do you need to adjust some of the time you spend on the world’s content (TV, social media, YouTube, etc.) and spend more time on God’s content (the Bible, prayer, church, and fellowship with other believers)?
